About You

Year after year here's what you're saying about The Mac Support Store.

"These guys did a terrific job. I have MacBook Pro which didn't turn on. I bring it to them. In about 20 minutes they performed some tests and found out the reason. It was the logic board. My Mac was on warranty and they had the part in stock but Apple requested to sent it to them. I dot my mac back 2 days before estimated repair time. The apple guys even changed my display because of some dead pixels on it (i didn't see it). If your mac on warranty come to them. There are no lines to wait, there is no hassle with scheduling an appointment. You can find a parking spot near by. Will come again."

"I live in Park Slope so Mac Support was a short walk away–I called up, spoke to the proprietor (who answered the phone), he said, "come on in," so I did–my new memory board was installed in five minutes and I was free to resume editing."

"I have been a customer of the Mac Support Store for a few years- before they moved to their current location. When they say they will have your computer in 1 to 3 days, they get it in 1 to 3 days. They have taken good care of a few of my computers, and they have never sold me anything I didn't need. I have gotten patient, thorough information, and I plan on returning to them in they days and years to come. The last time I went to the Mac store in SoHo, one of the employees gave me bad advice, and I bought software that was really a waste of my time. Now, I'm going to stick to Brooklyn."

"They are great. I had a terrible problem with my brand new iMac and they were able to fix my problems and give me tips on how to get the best out of apple."

"The Mac Support Store knows things about the future of computing and communications that you should ask them about. Their business is bound to grow and prosper. And it's good to know that they’re here in Brooklyn."

"The Mac Support Store is providing a much-needed service to the community of Mac users in Brooklyn. I am very excited to have him in the same building as our annex office (Room 58). Many of our writers have already benefited from their shop."

"My experience with The Mac Support Store was hiring their company to help me with my companies' local area network. Every product and service was handled on a timely and in a professional manner. The Mac Support Store are pros."

"The service that I received from the Mac Support Store was exceptional. My first trip was to Tekserve where I was told my G4's power supply was shot and basically did not carry "the part" any longer. Then went on to tell me that I needed to trash my computer and buy a new one! My last stop was The Mac Support Store in Brooklyn where they backed up my files while they installed a new power supply for a very reasonable price. I will never return to Tekserve and highly recommend The Mac Support Store."

"The Mac Support Store has a wealth of knowledge and I would consider them a subject matter expert in their field. They have strong network connections and have introduced me to other in the field."

"The negative reviews almost put me off this place but since there were also good reviews I decided to check it out for myself. I figured there was no harm in bringing in my Macbook pro which wouldn't boot for the free diagnostic. The counter guy (who was attentive and answered all my questions) told me one to three days for the results. He also mentioned they are working on quicker turn around time overall. We'll see. So I waited for my results and got them via email two days later. They said I needed a new hard drive. When I called the same guy said the drive failed and explained the repair process. Again, he was attentive and answered all my questions. No attitude, though I would say he was a little rushed because their phone is constantly ringing. I heard another service person was taking most of the calls while I was being helped. I must say while waiting for a bomb to drop there wasn't any. I approved the work and got my computer back in four days and it was working perfectly. Kind of a pain that I needed to reload all my apps but I understand that's my task since they couldn't install all my apps for me. Before I left the counter guy assured the repair for 45 days and if I should have any issues to call them back immediately. Frankly there was nothing to complain about that I could find. I think you can always find *something* to complain about, but nothing with this store put me off. I had a very good experience from start to finish and would recommend them."

"I've had issues with my Macbook for the last year or so. A friend recommended I bring my Mac in because Apple had admitted a problem with Macbook hard drives after 3 years. Here's the beauty - my friend knew it b/c he's on the The Mac Support Store mailing list and they let everyone know that Apple covers the total repair cost. Now I understand this brings the store business, but frankly they didn't have to tell us. Considering I could have been charged for out of warranty repair, I'd say those are commendable standards. I immediately backed up my Macbook and brought it in for repair. The staff was informed and the repair was done in 3 days. Glad to have you guys in Brooklyn and keep up the good work!"

"I work in Manhattan and took my mac into the local shop. They wanted almost 700 for the repair so i called the mac store in Brooklyn and spoke to someone right away. My repair was FREE!! They said Apple had a program that covered the cost of repair for my issue and the repair was FREE!! Why didn't the other place say that?? Mac Support Store was honest and also did a great job with my repair. I've already recommended them to friends and will go back myself."

"I highly recommend them. My iBook screen went black so I brought it in for a free estimate (note - other places I've been to want to charge for an estimate - they don't). They had my estimate in 2 days instead of 3. To their credit they called me with the estimate since the other email I use had bounced back to them. So they wanted to make sure I stayed informed and there was no lag in turn around. Stellar! Their diagnosis was the iBook needed a new inverter board - and after I called two other places to compare price this place beat the other two. I approved the repair and they delivered it on time and the screen was working again. It's been a few months and the screen is still working great. One star deducted because the location is off the beaten path. But since I've been going to the Bell House house it doesn't seem like such an effort to head down there anymore."

"I brought my 17" iMac to the Mac Support Store last Saturday because it would not turn on and I didn't know what was wrong. Just one week later, I have my computer back, fully functioning with a new hard drive. I couldn't be happier with the service that I received here and would definitely bring my computer back. Whenever I had to deal with the store, the employee at the front desk was always professional and helpful. I would definitely recommend this store."

"This place ROCKS. I had my iPod fixed there but also wanted to see how garageband worked. Guy there gave me a full demo answered a zillion questions and I was sold. Bought the works and I love my new toys. Had a few more questions later and had no problem calling them up. I LOVE having this place there when I'm home from touring. They know it all but don't act uppity about it. Sweet...."

"I had called the Apple Store before I knew about this place and the Apple Store doesn't even fix iPods! The Apple Store just wants to sell you another iPod, which is annoying. I brought The Mac Store my 3G iPod and later an iPod Classic 160Gb and had no troubles whatsoever. No bent parts or shoddy work. And they turned it around in the time they said they would. The guy there talked a little fast but that place is VERY busy and I saw him wanting to keep up with the many customer service requests. It was a good experience and I would recommend it."

"Five stars and two thumbs up! They transferred everything from my Gateway to my new Mac Mini (I love it!). Very good work and done in a day. I was able to recycle my ancient PC for free-free-free. I already recommended them to my friends and they have told me the place is dope. Told ya so LATISHA!"

"The Mac Support Store not only did the job (and fixed the problem) as promised, but also suggested alternatives to another problem that cost us nothing. We're happy to have them in Brooklyn"

"I still have my Quadra 610 from my college days. Remember those macs?! Anyway I brought it in to have my old college files transferred off the Quadra to my MacBook and, they-got-it-done. Obviously they've been around long enough to know how to network OS8 to OS10. Great to have my old files back and keep up the good work!!"

"What began as a hopeless experience became a great experience. Not because of the place, which was excellent from start to finish...but, I had to bring my iMac back twice for repair. First time I went there they looked up the serial number and told me this was one of Apple's "lemons". iMacs that came off the manufacturing line with problems. In fact they said Apple had a program that documented this and also covered all repair expenses but it had expired. First time they replaced the power supply and logic board and it was fine for about a week then the screen died. They weren't surprised when I returned. Long story short, they helped me to contact Apple and get a brand new replacement iMac, which was much faster than my old one. They really went out of their way to help me in what seemed like a dire situation and I walked away very, very happy."

"A friend had data recovery there and said they were good. True, they're cheaper than TekServe, but the quality of their recovery work was very good in my opinion. And, I got everything back including all my family pictures which can never be replaced. They were very clear that they don't integrate your files after recovery, so I was already aware that it would be up to me to do this..and I made some time to get it done. When I had a question about getting the data back into my address book I called them and they were willing to walk me through it (and I didn't abuse their good intention). They also have a service where they do the integration after recovery but I passed on that because it was $50 more. However I would suggest it for anyone who isn't comfortable with working with data after data recovery. My friend's and my own experience were excellent and I *would* recommend them for data recovery."

"The Apple Store is good but The Mac Support Store is better. I really don't like when the Apple Store pushes a new Mac in front of my face within 5 minutes of walking into the store. The Mac Support Store is all about service, even though they have a decent showroom for new Macs which they also sell. Their repair on my iBook was well worth the money and much less expensive than buying a new Mac. I just need a working computer and that they listed to me and delivered it hit the mark perfectly. Recommended without hesitation."

"I like that they don't talk down to you or try to confuse you with a lot of tech talk. Though I heard them giving a more technical explanation to another customer (who seemed to understand them) when they turned to me they asked a few questions about my data recovery...like...do you know how your hard drive works? I didn't so they explained it to me in simple terms I could understand. The guy also pulled showed me an open hard drive to explain what he meant. I like being treated like I'm not stupid, and it seems they try to adjust technical explanation depending on who they're talking to."

" I hate retail shopping especially at this time of year and I usually order things online. I had no idea about this place until a friend told me I should check it out since I was shopping for a new Mac. Was surprised when I walked in to find a professional showroom floor with Macs on display and plenty of peripherals to choose from. As an educator I often get a decent discount from Apple, but they were able to match it. They also transferred the data from my old PowerBook G4 to the new Macbook for free (Apple store does this too). Basically I was able to walk in, talk to someone immediately who came around the counter to discuss my needs and I had everything I needed in about 20 min and was done shopping. For me that was the ideal shopping experience, and I was also glad to support Brooklyn with a local purchase."

"I have the 1st gen iPod that hadn't worked for years. I never throw my Apple stuff away so I took it to these guys. They looked at it for free ("free apple diagnostic") and the estimate was much less than I anticipated. I didn't get it fixed, I was just curious what the problem was. All in all I liked how they responded while other places usually laugh it off and tell me to buy a new one (I did already, duh!). Hopefully my Mac Pro will stay healthy but if it starts acting up now I know where to go."

"I took my new MacBook there cause it wouldn't start up. They actually fixed it in three days and I was quite impressed. I had explained I was going on vacation, and they said they couldn't promise the repair that soon, but would "do what they could to expedite it." I was skeptical but they did it, even though they didn't have to by their own policy. I think that's top-notch customer service and highly recommend this place."

"I've gone to both Tekserve and the Apple Store in the past then decided to try the Mac Support Store. They're much better than the other places. For starters they're more attentive, friendly and talk with you instead of making you seem dumb. I also noticed they aren't as overwhelmed as Tekserve usually us, which makes a big difference. I brought them my Mac Mini which had a broken cd drive and a MacBook I wanted to upgrade. They turned around BOTH requests in about 1 week. Prices were fair and service was good. I have no problem recommending them and I'm very glad they're here!"

"I can, without any hesitation, recommend the Mac Support Store. I was as frazzled and fried as my computer when I went into the store/repair shop, because my dissertation, no less, was on the hard drive. They were able to completely recover the data, as well as repair the computer. I found the process and communication with everyone at the store to be professional and timely. They are extremely knowledgeable and detail oriented. They answered my questions and had my laptop turned around in a few days. My experience was so far different from the three negative reviews, which in my eye looks like they were written by the same person, that it sounds like a different place altogether. Once again, I have absolutely no hesitations in recommending the Mac Support Store."

"I brought some older Macs there for recycling and there was a guy loading the stuff onto a big cart. I had to ask him where the stuff was going since hearing nightmare stories about recycle stuff going to China. He said he worked exclusively with a company in NJ and had strict arrangements with the owner that the stuff be kept in the US. He also showed me credentials from the Park Slope Civic Council (of which I am a member.) It's great this place is offering this service for free. Better recycled now until the new law goes into effect sometime in 2010 that all homes in Brooklyn must recycle themselves. Great community benefit!"

"I didn't even know about this place! I'm in Bay Ridge so usually I go the the Apple Store in Staten Island. After a few lousy trips to the Apple store I decided to find something in Brooklyn. I called Apple and they actually recommended The mac store for repair of my older mac. I was lucky to find them because in terms of service they're better than Apple store. Being there I realized the difference between the two places. The Apple store tries to sell you new stuff and the mac store is focused on repair service. The mac store has a decent amount of retail stuff, and they sell new macs, but I wanted to see about getting a few more years from my old one. They upgraded the ram and hard drive and transferred all my data over. Not once did they mention I should just buy a new mac. My kids are happy with their "faster new mac" and so am I."

"What an excellent experience- The customer service was great! Very knowledgeable and interested in my needs as a consumer. They even said "we fix computers but we serve humans"- If only everyone in the service industry understood that... I will be back here."

"I first dealt with them when I brought in my MacBook which had just come back from Tekserve. It was a faulty hard drive that they replaced, a pretty normal transaction. Everything worked fine when I got it back, and still does 9 months later. Where they really impressed me was when I brought my G5 tower in. I had attempted to install my own RAM, in the process I apparently messed up the positioning of the RAM, causing the computer to not work. When I brought it in, they examined it and a couple days later told me that the only problem was the RAM not being in the correct slots. They fixed it for me, and didn't charge me anything for the process. I know if I had gone to a bigger repair center, they would have tried to sell me on some fancy backup and cleaning package that I didn't need. I can't think of anything more valuable in a computer repair store than the knowledge that they won't try to oversell me or rip me off."

"These guys have saved my ass more than once. They are very personable and always attentive; also, they're small enough that the owner is often involved first-hand, which, as the owner of a small business myself, I truly appreciate. Highly recommended."

"I've gotten support from these guys since BEFORE they were the Mac Support Store—remember the Jumpers? I was the studio manager for an advertising firm and we decided we needed a solid network plan with a server; I'm an expert computer user but an IT novice. I got advice from a couple of different firms on how best to create the network and Jeff came in and helped us create a system that addressed all of our needs. Later, when I needed to create a VPN so that I could access the server off site. That office has since moved to a new location and I'm now freelancing with them (it's the economy we live in) but I still have the server here and am actually using it here in my home. I respect Jeff's dedication to his customers and am frequently tempted by the incredible deals he offers in his newsletter (no one is better at coaxing more life out of an older computer!). The next time I need to buy a computer—especially in light my misgivings about how all electronics are being manufactured right, not just Apple—I will definitely look at buying one of his suped up specials. Well done, Jeff: it's people like you that make me proud to use Apple equipment!"
